The Toyota Corolla has long been one of Australia’s most popular small cars, and until recently had held the mantel of Australia’s number one selling vehicle. Since its release in 1966, around 1.4 million Corolla’s have found homes in Australia through to 2019. The 2019 Toyota Corolla comes in both sedan & hatch body variations and has several vehicle models to choose from, including the base model Ascent Sport, SX and range topping ZR model. In 2016, Toyota added a hybrid version to the Australian model line-up and today offers the option of a petrol hybrid engine for each model grade.
Wheel & tyre sizes on the Toyota Corolla range vary from model to model, with vehicles produced during the early 90’s being released with 13” and 14” rims. However the current year models have several rim size options ranging from 15” on the base model to 18” wheels on the ZR model variants
The Toyota Corolla is targeted at the small-car demographic, however its roomy interior and five-star ANCAP safety rating make it an utterly reliable, safe and comfortable vehicle that appeals to a much wider audience. Its front wheel drive configuration makes tyre maintenance imperative. Like all front wheel drive vehicles, tyre wear rates on the front tyres is likely to be significantly higher than the rear. As such, it’s important to rotate the tyres frequently (8,000km – 12,000km) and ensure that tyre pressures are maintained. It’s also recommended that a wheel alignment is performed when replacing tyres to ensure optimum tyre life.
The “touring” nature of the vehicle and popularity of the tyre sizes used, mean that typically there’s a large range of tyre options to suit most consumers needs and budget. Toyota has selected several tyre brands as standard equipment on the Corolla vehicle range, including Bridgestone and Dunlop. The brand fitted as standard equipment to your vehicle will depend on the model and age of the vehicle. While these brands were chosen as standard equipment, generally Corolla owners are looking for tyres that offer a combination of durability, grip and comfort. We see many Corolla owners stick with either their original tyre brand or choose from one of the other well-known brands such as Kumho, Goodyear, Yokohama, Pirelli or Michelin. If you’re on a budget, you can’t go past the Goodride tyre brand as it offers consumers a good all round experience and great value.
